Here I would like to share the 8 works with which I took part in the “Immaterial Correspondences” exhibition, which took place in Caltanissetta from 23 September to 14 October 2023.
The Works were presented in a collection entitled “Of Freedom – A tale of sins and other sinners”. The paintings follow one another in the constant idea of creating a metaphor on Free Will which over the years has increasingly shortened its limits, if by limit we mean the thread aimed at defining the contours of Good Creance or the unwritten social norms that distinguish the eras, more than wars or the papal throne. It is no coincidence that I have often caressed, while painting, the Poems of Pier Paolo Pasolini, witness to a time close to us, but very distant if we use the meter – I am ironic – of Good Creanza.
I traveled for six months in painting, tackling themes that pierce us in total indifference. We do not notice, sensibly I say, migrants, wombs, violence, loneliness; we are too involved in the selfish pursuit of vain, ultimately short-lived glory; not a step bigger than our life.
A journey conducted along the lines of the abstract expressionism that I love most. And I would like it to be an opportunity to mention Zao Wu Ki, Joan Mitchell, Emilio Vedova, who I would love to call my Masters, but unfortunately I could only limit myself to looking at their painted features and trying to draw minimal lessons from them. Even now I don’t stop doing it.
I am extremely pleased, as already written elsewhere, that my works have been awarded one of the two Special Mentions, the only recognition to the artists who took part in the “Immaterial Correspondences” and which I want to list here, thanking them for their great attention and for their enormous teachings that they gave me: Salvatore Carollo, Giampietro Di Napoli, Domenico Labate and Maristella Rana, also awarded the other Mention.
In addition to them, my most affectionate and sincere thanks go to the creator and curator of all this, Professor Graziella Bellone, whose trust and dedication were a reflection of rare professionalism.
This is the motivation for the Special Mention reserved for me.
“In painting the Artist feels the need to talk about his sensations, the fruit of a personal spirituality. He projects onto the canvas images of his imagination told by coloristic layers that give a significant completeness to the pictorial action. On this occasion the figure becomes the point fluid nodal point of the story that relates to the user.”.
My works are eight. The last one, also in order of time in its creation, “The balconies of Palazzolo”, contains all the others and is for me a metaphor of “Free Will”.
